State of the New York Biotechnology Industry Report

The State of the Industry Report is a survey, analysis and measure of the progress of the biotech industry in New York State.  The Report is presented annually at the NYBA Annual Meeting the State’s largest gathering of the industry.  NYBA makes the Report available to the public and encourage use of the data to promote New York State as a leader in biotechnology.

The previous State of the Industry Reports and Industry Updates have been extremely well received and have been used by others in promotional campaigns locally and internationally. These documents have been made publicly available through our web site and have also been distributed at various industry meetings.

New York State Biotechnology Industry Briefing

The State Biotechnology Industry Briefing is a PowerPoint presentation on the New York biotech industry that is made available to NYBA constituents for use in promoting the industry to a wider audience. Educators, analysts, business executives, entrepreneurs, financiers and others have used information from our industry briefings in various presentations relating to the industry. The Briefings are also used to educate economic development and regional groups regarding legislative and industry advances of relevance to their local constituencies.

Concept to Company Technology Transfer Initiative

The Concept to Company Technology Transfer Initiative was started in 2002 as a seminar series in the Downstate area and is designed to educate and encourage commercialization of technologies by academic scientists. We are now beginning to see the fruits of our labor, as members of the audience have started to incorporate new companies, spawning bio-entrepreneurism around the State.  Indeed, the program has been so successful that we are bringing it to growing biotech clusters throughout the state.  Over the next year, Concept to Company seminars will be brought to Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, Ithaca and other areas.

Peer Group Roundtables

Peer Group Roundtable meetings are designed to get senior executives together to discuss issues and challenges relevant to the New York biotechnology industry in an informal setting.   Scheduled quarterly throughout the year, they provide high value networking opportunities to upper management.

Current Peer Groups include:

  • CEO Roundtable
  • CFO Roundtable
  • General Council Roundtable
  • CTO Roundtable

Other Peer Groups will be added as interest develops.

See the Events Calendar for dates and times of upcoming Roundtables.

International Business Development Program

In May 2007, NYBA launched a program to develop relationships with international biotech organizations, resulting in early-stage associations with groups in France, United Kingdom, Germany, China and Japan.  We are working to develop both incoming and outgoing trade missions to these regions in order to enhance New York biotech’s international visibility, and business opportunities, in these areas, and to offer international business development engagements for our members.

Current plans include developing a New York State presence at the BIO-Europe Convention in November 2007 and the BioJapan Convention in June 2008.
